Data (H3 Cells & Locations)

Summary

The tools in the Data toolset add TravelTime Data API layers to your map: Demographics, Places, Open spaces and Neighbourhood.

  • Data from H3 Cells - reads data for an existing layer of H3 cells, such as the output of an H3 tool.
  • Data from Locations - takes a layer of points plus travel time settings, and works out each location's catchment itself: the resolution 9 H3 cells reachable from (or to) it, from the /h3/fast endpoint.

Output types

Output TypeOutput
TotalsOne polygon per catchment, its cells merged, with the catchment's totals as fields
Per cellOne polygon per distinct cell, with that cell's own data as fields
FeaturesOne point per place in the cells, or per public open space touching them, with its own details as fields. Places and Open spaces only.

Outputs are styled: each Neighbourhood measure is added as its own layer, Places per cell is coloured by count, and Open spaces per cell shows green space or not.

Input H3 CellsThe layer of H3 cells to read. Resolution 9 or coarser for Totals, the chosen Resolution for Per cell, and 9 for Features.H3 Cells
Cell ID FieldThe field holding each row's H3 cell ID (h3_id in an H3 tool's output)H3 Cells
Catchment ID FieldTotals only: the field naming the catchment each cell belongs to (Index_id in an H3 tool's output). Left blank, the whole layer is totalled as one catchment.H3 Cells
LocationsThe point layer to fetch data aroundLocations

Travel ModeAs the Core toolsLocations
Departing / ArrivingWhether the catchment is for journeys departing from the locations or arriving at themLocations
Time PeriodThe typical time period journeys are calculated forLocations
Travel time (in minutes)The maximum journey time. Max 180 minutes, or 90 at Resolution 10. For Totals, the Data API takes at most 200,000 cells per location, so a long drive can pass it.Locations
